Preparing your
disclosure
In
electronic format
The text file formats we accept are Plain Text (txt), Microsoft Word (doc),
Adobe Acrobat (pdf) and Rich Text Format (rtf), and wherever possible they
should all be supplied using generic Windows fonts.
For illustrations and diagrams only we also accept TIFF and Jpeg files.
For specific instructions please see Set
up for electronic files first as well as noting the following general
electronic format guidelines:
-
Set both your text and illustration files sizes up to A4
or US letter (8.5 x 11 inches).
- The
type size should be at least 12.5 point.
-
A margin of 1 inch, or 2.5 centimetres, should be allowed
on all four sides.
-
Do not number pages as they will be re-numbered for publication.
- Start
with a headline, ranged left in upper and lower case.
- Leave
three blank lines, then start your text, ranged left.
- Thereafter
paragraphs should be indented.
- End
with ‘Disclosed by.. . your company name, inventors etc’,
or ‘Disclosed anonymously’ again ranged left
in upper and lower case.
- Keep
punctuation, particularly in headlines and artwork, to a minimum.
- You
can include diagrams and illustrations to illustrate your disclosure.
- Number
all diagrams and illustrations to coincide with references in
the text.
- Use
single column type only.
- Searchers
can find it useful if you also add an abstract of content to your
disclosure.
- Use
only generic Windows fonts, typically Arial or Times unless the
font is supplied with the disclosure.
